Fiber reinforced composite and formation thereof
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To give appropriate rigidity to a preform prior to resin injection, and prevent the deformation thereof by employing as, main constitutional elements, a three- dimensional fiber skeleton material wherein a heat resistive fiber material and a thermoplastic fiber material are combined, twisted, and woven, and thermoplastic matrix resin, and permitting the heat deforming temperature of the thermoplastic material to be higher than the practically hardening temperature of the thermosetting matrix resin. CONSTITUTION:A preform (a three-dimensional skeleton structure) is made such that a thermoplastic fiber material having appropriate heat deforming temperature is woven in mixed relation into a heat resistive fiber material by combination, twisting, and alignment. By mainly subjecting this to a heat processing under tensile strength for melt-impregnating the thermoplastic material, the preform is given a preferable cubic configuration and formation retaining property. The preform formation-treated in this manner is set within a forming block and thermosetting matrix resin is injected thereinto, and thereafter it is hardened by heating. By selecting materials where the practical cure-treating temperature of the matrix resin is lower than the heat deforming temperature of aforementioned thermoplastic material, the cubic configuration of the formed preform is not damaged and cure-forming is effected therein.
