Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To accurately test the tooth contact of a ring gear without using a pressure-sensing sheet by performing subtraction between image data on the ring gear, which has tooth surfaces coated with paint, before and after engagement. CONSTITUTION:After the tooth surfaces of the ring gear 2 before engagement are coated with the paint, an image of the tooth surfaces of the ring gear 2 is picked up by a CCD camera 7 and its image data is stored in the memory of an image processor 9. Then the ring gear 2 is rotated while engaging a pinion gear 3 and then an image of the tooth surfaces of the ring gear 2 is picked up by the CCD camera 7; and the subtraction between the image data after the engagement and image data before the engagement which is stored in the memory is carried out. Then the subtraction result is converted into binary data to extract its feature quantity. This image processing is carried out repeatedly until the ring gear 2 makes one rotation and after the ring gear 2 makes one rotation, whether or not their engagement state is normal is decided, so that the result is outputted on a display device 10. Consequently, the tooth contact of the gear is accurately tested without using any pressure-sensing sheet.
