Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To expand the limit of equalization capability by inserting a magnification discrimination circuit between an output of a discrimination feedback type transversal filter section and a discrimination feedback input of a backward equalizer so as to magnify the level of a signal subjected to discrimination feedback by a multiple of L. CONSTITUTION:An output of a discrimination feedback type transversal filter section 101 is compressed to 1/K by a gain adjustment circuit 11. When the compressed output is subject to discrimination feedback to a backward equalizer 202 of the said filter section 101, the signal is magnified by a magnification discrimination circuit 14 by a multiple of L and then subject to discrimination feedback. Since an output of each multiplier of the backward equalizer is multiplied by L, the limit of the equalization capability is magnified than that of a conventional equalizer. For example, let L be 2 and the range of the signal be A', an output of the magnification discrimination circuit 14 is 00100...0, and when the range of the signal is C', the output is 10100...0. Moreover, when a multiplier with a large output bit number is employed, the multiple L is set to a value larger than the compression factor K and the larger equalization capability is obtained.
