Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To narrow down a data corresponding to the intenston of retrieval from a data base by successively displaying categories from the high-order hierarchy to the low-order hierarchy of hierarchical structure, selecting the category by a user, and outputting the data belonging to the least-significant category together with the degree of matching. CONSTITUTION:A weighted category table 102 is provided to store the hierarchical structure, to which the data belongs, and the degree of belonging among the categories, and a weighted classification table 103 is provided to store belonging relation to the category and the degree of belonging. In this case, the data extracted by a data retrieval part 109 is displayed on a retrieved result display part 111 together with the data matching degree calculated by a data matching degree calculation part 110. Then, the plural master categories are provided in a certain category, a multilevel degree is provided in the connecting relation between categories and the belonging relation between the category and the data, and the matching degree of data is calculated. Thus, even when the user selects a wrong retrieval path, the desired data can be retrieved.
