Paperlike material comprising polyphenylene sulfide fiber and production thereof

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the title dense material rich in high rigidity and excellent in tensile strength, tear strength, etc., by hot pressing, under specified conditions, of a web comprising polyphenylene sulfide undrawn fiber with specific characteristics. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, a web comprising short or long fiber 10-500g/cm<3> in weight and 0-25% in area shrinkage in a hot air atmosphere at 130 deg.C is produced using polyphenylene sulfide undrawn fiber 0.1-10 denier in fineness with the orientation degree <80% of the perfectly drawn fiber. Thence, the web is put to pressing treatment under heating at 130-250 deg.C, pref. using a steel calendering roller, thus obtaining the objective material, a paperlike structure, >=0.01kg/cm/g/m<2> breaking strength, >=0.005kg/g/m<2> tearing force >=0.04g/cc in density.
