Liquid crystal device
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a memory function with which optical properties are liable to have uniformity by forming a porous film of fine particles consisting of dielectrics insoluble in the smectic phase and isotropic phase of a p type smectic liquid crystal and binder consisting of a high-polymer material insoluble in the smectic phase. CONSTITUTION:The porous film is formed of the fine particles consisting of the dielectrics insoluble in the smectic phase and isotropic phase of the p type smectic liquid crystal and a binder for adhering the fine particles consisting of the high-polymer material insoluble in the smectic phase of the p type smectic liquid crystal. Namely, the important requirement with the fine particle to be used is that the fine particles do not dissolve in the smectic phase and isotropic phase of the p type smectic liquid crystal so as to maintain the structure of the porous film at room temp. and even at the high temp. of phase transition temp. or above at which the p type smectic liquid crystal attains the isotropic phase. The liquid crystal device has the properties to hardly allow the intrusion of ionic impurities in the liquid crystal and to hardly generate the deterioration in electrical characteristics in this way and is easily formable so as not to have a wide distribution in the diameter of light scattering bodies. The optical properties of the display surface are liable to have the uniformity on the whole.
