ester derivative
Abstract
Abstract NEW MATERIAL:An optically active ester derivative shown by formula I (R is 2-18C alkyl; C* is asymmetric atom). EXAMPLE:6-Hydroxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid 1'-trifluoromethylheptyl ester. USE:A synthetic intermediate for ferroelectric liquid crystal compounds useful in display for liquid crystal television, optical printer head, optical Fourier transform element, light valve, etc., or for components for ferroelectric liquid crystal composition. Also useful as a synthetic intermediate for liquid crystal compound suitable for liquid crystal display element such as White Taylor type liquid crystal display element, cholesteric nematic phase transition type display element or thermally writing liquid crystal display element using smectic liquid crystal. PREPARATION:4-Acetoxynaphthalene-2-carboxylic acid chloride is reacted with a compound shown by formula II in a solvent and the prepared compound shown by formula III is deacetylated to give a compound shown by formula I.
