Inter-frame prediction coding device and decoding device

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve an inter-frame prediction efficiency by setting variably an interval at what number of frames an independent frame applying independent coding is to be taken in response to a frame difference of input frames. CONSTITUTION:Frame memories 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, a prediction device 5, a frame difference detector 12, changeover switches 6, 9, an in-frame coder 10 are provided in the device. In this case, An interval N at which an independent frame applying independent coding without use of inter-frame prediction is to be taken is set variably depending on the frame difference of inputted frames among consecutive frames of a picture signal inputted continuously and depending frames inbetween are coded with prediction by the independently coded independent frames before and after the dependent frame. Thus, the inter-frame prediction efficiency is improved and optimum coding is always implemented to a moving picture with different degree of movement and the coding data quantity is much reduced.
