Molding of polymer blend
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To make it possible to fully orient a liquid crystal polymer, to facilitate extrusion molding and to improve the properties of a molding by reacting a thickener with a polymer blend of a liquid crystal polymer with a non-liquid- crystal polymer and specifying the melt viscosity of the polymer blend in melt- molding the polymer blend. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal polymer (e.g. a copolyester comprising p- hydroxybenzoic acid residue units and ethylene terephthalate units) is blended with a non-liquid-crystal polymer (e.g. nylon 6). A thickener (e.g. 2,2'-phenylene- bisoxazoline) is added to this blend and reacted therewith so that the melt viscosity of the polymer blend as measured at the molding temperature and a shear rate of 1000sec<-1> may be at least equivalent to that of the non-liquid- crystal polymer as measured under the same conditions. This polymer blend is melt-molded to obtain a molding of improved properties.
