Arm junction type reciprocator

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To enable a valve timing to be smoothly varied in an arm junction type reciprocator suitable for a valve timing varying mechanism for an air suction/exhaust valve in an engine by interposing a lock mechanism between an arm shaft and an arm member journaled on the arm shaft. CONSTITUTION:A low speed cam 3a and a high speed cam 3b are provided in a cam shaft interlocked with a crankshaft. A first arm member 4 and a second arm member 13 both driven by the cams 3a, 3b are arranged in an arm shaft 9 in parallel to the cam shaft. The first arm member 4 is freely engaged with or disengaged from the arm shaft 9 via a lock mechanism R, and the second arm member 13 is secured to the arm shaft 9 via a key 12. A lock pin 10 is located in a retracted position by means of a spring 11 when an engine is operated at a low speed so that the first arm member 4 is free from the arm shaft 9. Meanwhile, the lock pin 10 is pushed under a hydraulic pressure when the engine is operated at a high speed, to be engaged with a pin lock hole 4a, thus bringing both 9 and 4 into locked state.
