Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce temperature rise at a paper non-feeding part even if fixing is continuously performed by detecting the paper width of recording paper and varying control temperature in response to the paper width. CONSTITUTION:The recording paper is fed between a pair of press-contact rollers; a heat roller 201 and a back-up roller 202, and toner is hot-melt, softened and fixed on the paper. The surface temperature of the heat roller 201 is detected by a temperature sensor 204 and controlled to constant temperature by controlling the lighting of a heat lamp 203. In this case, the paper width of the recording paper is recognized by a CPU 101 from the combination of the output signals P1-P3 of a paper width detecting circuit 103 and temperature set value is varied in response to the paper width of the recording paper. Thus, even when recording paper whose paper width is small is continuously fixed, the maximum temperature of the heat roller 201 due to the temperature rise at the paper non-feeding part can be reduced.
