Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To apply laser beams having intensity corresponding to the extent of a middle tone stably, and to reproduce the middle tone of a writing picture image excellently by providing a plurality of laser-beam generating means selectively energized in response to the extent of the middle tone and a laser-beam synthesizing means synthesizing laser beams emitted from each laser-beam generating means. CONSTITUTION:When a picture signal Pv and '011' as a middle tone signal Ph corresponding to '3' having intensity at fourth stage in order of weak outputs are transmitted over a control circuit 10, laser beams L2 output from a laser-beam generating means 2 and laser beams L3 output from a laser-beam generating means 3 are synthesized by a laser-beam synthesizing means B, and the specified picture element of a liquid crystal cell 30 is irradiated with synthesized laser beams L4 having the light energy of '3' through an optical system 20 for a laser. Consequently, an image in size corresponding to the quantity of the light energy of the synthesized laser beams L4 is formed in the picture element of the liquid crystal cell 30, and the picture element is changed into the brightness of a middle tone. Since outputs from laser-beam generating means 1-3 are not changed at multistages and stabilized in this case, the brightness of the reproduced middle tone is stabilized at each stage.
