Surface-coated cermet for cutting tool
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of a coating layer of Ti nitride or Ti carbide to a cermet substrate by forming the coating layer consisting of Ti nitride or Ti carbide on the surface of the cermet substrate formed a hard surface layer of Co, Ni, Fe and a metal carbonitride solid soln. CONSTITUTION:The title cermet is obtd. by coating the surface of a cermet substrate with a coating layer of one or more among Ti carbide, Ti nitride and Ti carbonitride in 0.5-20mum average thickness. The cermet substrate has a compsn. consisting of 5-30% one or more among Co, Ni and Fe as binding phase forming components and the balance metal carbonitride solid soln. as a hard dispersed phase forming component. The solid soln. is represented by a formula (Ti, M)CN (where M is one or more among Ta, Nb, W and Mo). A hard surface layer of the solid soln. having 0.5-20mum average thickness is formed on the surface of the substrate before the coating.
