Production of hydrophilic polymer

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To stably obtain the subject polymer without attachment of water- containing gel on inner wall in high productivity by controlling repeatedly contacting face on inner wall of reaction vessel with aqueous solution, etc., below specific surface roughness and specific temperature, adding aqueous solution of hydrophilic monomer and polymerizing. CONSTITUTION:A liquid containing aqueous solution of hydrophilic solution (e.g., acrylic acid) is polymerized in a reaction vessel 15 in which repeatedly contacting face is controlled below 3mu surface roughness expressed by Rmax and at least said repeatedly contacting face is continually cooled with cooling medium at a temperature below 70 deg.C through bottom jacket 14, upper jacket 17 and side jacket 18 from back and the aimed hydrophilic polymer is obtained in preparing said hydrophilic polymer by polymerizing a liquid containing aqueous solution of hydrophilic monomer in a reaction vessel 15 having two rotating and stirring wings 16 of sigma-type wing and thermometer 11.
