Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To miniaturize and lighten an optical pickup by guiding a reflecting light from an optical disk to a light waveguide path by plural diffraction gratings and after the light is propagated to a constant distance or above in plural directions in the light waveguide path, radiating to the external part of the light waveguide path and making it incident on plural light receiving elements different from the light waveguide path. CONSTITUTION:The light radiated from a semiconductor laser 1 transmits a transparent substrate 2, diffused and converged to the surface of an optical disk 4 by a condensing lens 3. A reflecting light from the optical disk 4 transmits the condensing lens 3 again and returns to the semiconductor laser 1, a part is guided to a light waveguide path 6 by an input grating coupler 5, propagated toward an output grating coupler 7, radiated by the grating coupler 7, arrives at a light receiving element 8 of another body and the signal is detected. At this time, since the light is propagated into the waveguide path 6 by the grating coupler 5, even when the light receiving element 8 is away from the laser 1, the laser 1 and a transparent substrate 2 can be made close to about several mum. Thus, the pickup can be miniaturized.
