Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent the unauthorized use of charged software from being performed by reading out the broken numbers of defective sectors, addresses, and bit patterns, and prohibiting following access when noncoincidence of them with fault recognition information by collation is obtained. CONSTITUTION:When access to a floppy disk 1 is performed, the broken numbers of defective sectors, addresses, and bit patterns are read out by software started up first, and they are collated with the fault recognition information stored in advance, and the following access is prohibited when noncoincidence is obtained. Therefore, even when the access is performed by duplicating the floppy disk 1 and attaching a seal 2 made of substance to disturb the access on the duplicated floppy disk 1, no complete coincidence of the position of the seal 2 with the floppy disk 1 is obtained, therefore, noncoincidence with the fault recognition information in which the numbers of defective sectors, addresses, and bit patterns broken by the seal 2 are stored is obtained. In such a way, the following access is disabled, which prevents the unauthorized use of the charged software from being performed.
