Production of ultra-high-molecular weight polyolefin fiber
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber of both high elastic modulus and mechanical strength, excellent in durability by spinning using a specified fluidity improver to be kneaded and under specified conditions of the melt spinning. CONSTITUTION:(A) e.g., 5-80wt.% of ultra-high-molecular weight polyolefin >=5dl/g in intrinsic viscosity, prepared by polymerization of ethylene or propylene is mixed with (B) e.g., 20-95wt.% of a fluidity improver lower in the melting point than the component A (e.g., n-nonane, xylene, docosane), and the resultant blend is agitated and fed to an extruder where said blend is kneaded at temperatures higher than the melting point of the component A and then extruded through a die to carry out a spinning so as to be 0.003-0.010kg in spinning tension per single fiber and 20-60kg/cm<2> in effective spinning tension, thus obtaining the objective fiber.
