Production of aminophenol ether

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material or intermediate for medicine, dyestuff, etc., in high yield and selectivity by reacting an aminophenol with an organohalide compound in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide and polyethylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:An aminophenol expressed by formula I is reacted with an organohalide compound expressed by the formula R-X (R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, etc.; X is halogen) in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide (e.g. NaOH or KOH) and polyethylene glycol to provide the aminophenol ether expressed by formula II. The used polyethylene glycol has preferably 200-20,000 molecular weight.
