Character information display device

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To display a slave picture without losing original information by counting the number of picture elements of character information in each discrimination block having a prescribed size and discriminating the variable picture element density in accordance with the counted value and selecting one of plural compression methods based on discrimination results. CONSTITUTION:When a teletext program to be displayed as a picture is designated by the key input from a keyboard circuit 12, the key input signal is decoded by a CPU 7. Then, the control signal to display the character information signal as the slave picture is transferred from the CPU 7 to a display control circuit 11. The display control circuit 11 receives the control signal from the CPU 7 to operate a slave picture display control circuit 14. When the slave picture display control signal is inputted to this circuit 14 from the circuit 11, the circuit 14 supplies a slave picture display address, which thins and reads out the character information signal written in a picture RAM of a display output circuit 13, to the display output circuit 13 and supplies a picture switching signal to a synthesizing circuit 16. In this case, the picture element density of character information is discriminated, and optimum one of plural compression methods is selected to compress the information.
