Liquid crystal display device
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To find the best display conditions for display picture elements and to drive a liquid crystal panel by providing picture elements for monitoring which can be driven independently of the display picture elements outside the display area of the liquid crystal panel and measuring the characteristics. CONSTITUTION:The picture elements 5 for monitoring which enable the reference level of a data voltage to be adjusted independently are provided outside the display area of the liquid crystal display panel 1 and a brightness measuring means 6 measures the brightness of the picture elements 5 for monitoring. Namely, when the liquid crystal panel 1 is in operation, an adaptive driving means 7 varies the reference level of a data voltage to thin film transistors TFT constituting the picture elements 5 for monitoring and the brightness measuring means 6 measures variation in the brightness of the picture elements 5 for monitoring based upon above variation. Then, when the adaptive driving means 7 detects the reference level with which the brightness of the picture elements 5 for monitoring are maximum, this adaptive driving means 7 sets the reference level in a reference level varying means 4. Consequently, the best display conditions for the liquid crystal cells for display are found to drive the liquid crystal panel.
