Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent an error to burden a financial load on a customer by fixedly providing a bar code scanner having a reading window to scan a light beam, and providing an area for which reading by irradiation of light is impossible proximately to the reading area of this bar code scanner. CONSTITUTION:A light source 5, for which a light transmitting surface is inclined to a right side at the angle of approximately 45 deg., is fitted to the front of a bar code scanner 2 at a position at the lower side of a reading window 3 and to some degree right from the center of the bar code scanner 2. Although a laser beam scanned from the reading window 3 also irradiates pieces of merchandise 7 in a basket 6 in a reading impossible area, since brightness identification for optical information as the data of these pieces of merchandise is disturbed by a bright light beam from the light source 5, even when the reflected light beam of the pieces of merchandise 7 from the reading window 3 is received in the light receiving part of the bar code scanner 2, it becomes impossible to recognize the received reflected light beam as binarization data. Namely, it is inhibited to read the data of the pieces of merchandise 7 in the basket 6. Consequently, only the data of the pieces of merchandise 7 which are taken out from the basket 6 and moved to the reading area can be read.
