Novel bis quaternary ammonium compound and use thereof

Abstract

Abstract NEW MATERIAL:A bis quaternary ammonium compound of formula I (R1 and R7 are 1-22C alkyl; R2, R3, R5 and R6 are 1-5C alkyl, hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl; R4 is 2-3C alkylene; n is 1-5; X<-> is anion). EXAMPLE:A compound of formula II. USE:A softening agent, bleach-activating agent and bactericide. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I is prepared e.g., by reacting a tertiary amine with a halocarboxylic acid ester to give a quaternary ammonium salt of formula III (X is halogen), hydrolyzing the salt in the presence of an alkali catalyst to give a compound of formula IV, reacting the compound with thionyl chloride to give an acid chloride of formula V and further reacting the acid chloride with choline chloride, etc.
