Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To efficiently use a storage area and to execute high-speed consecutive photographing by counting the number of blocks in which difference detected by a detecting means exists for one picture, setting a threshold value high to the detecting means when the count value is large, and setting the threshold value low to the detecting means when the count value is small. CONSTITUTION:A threshold value 40 to be a reference to discriminate the difference as significant difference in a difference detecting part 34 is set from a moving block number accumulating part 50. The moving block number accumulating part 50 counts the number of moving blocks detected in a moving block detecting part 44, lowers the threshold value 40 when the count value is smaller than a threshold value 54 set to the accumulating part 50, and heightens the threshold value 40 when the count value is larger than the threshold value 54. Namely, the number of the blocks for which data compression is to be executed is made into a fixed value for each frame to be obtained in the consecutive photographing. Further, for the picture data of the second and succeeding frame photographed in a consecutive photographing mode, the data compression in an orthogonal transform encoding part 32 is executed only for blocks in which movement is detected. Thus, a consecutive photographing speed can be improved, and the storage area per one frame can be also minimized.
