System and method of high resolution image focusing
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of a light image formation or optical read system above a previous level while a refracting lens is incorporated together by well considering elements such as a wave front component distribution, an accurate distribution of illumination energy, and local, temporal, and spatial arrays of phase relation for operation of wave front aberrations. CONSTITUTION: Transparent grating elements which are holographically arranged are placed in the array of refracting optical system, and one of the elements is generally in a critical aperture. The grating elements and other elements are illuminated monochromatically by many spatially incoherent and temporally coherent light sources which are so distributed as to cause phase delay which varies increasingly. The delay of a wave front varies by an increment which is a submultiple of the wavelength to obtain high diffraction efficiency. It is caused by a transparent grating consisting of a part determined by plateaus. The positional constitution of the part varies the reciprocal action of the wavefront components so that many mutually relative pupils are formed. Consequently, for example, an increase in depth of field and improvement of the contrast and resolution are obtained as the effect of the composition of the pupils.
