Preparation of particulate phosphor

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prepare a particulate phosphor having a small particle diameter and a narrow particle diameter distribution, by growing matrix crystals and injecting activators into the matrix crystals while fluidizing a matrix compd. of phosphor in an atmospheric gas stream. CONSTITUTION:Growth of matrix crystals and injection of activators into the matrix crystals are effected through heat treatment of a matrix compd. of phosphor together with a material contg. the activators while fluidizing the matrix compd. in an atmospheric gas stream. The matrix compd. to be used is preferably in the form of fine particles having a primary particle diameter smaller than that of a particulate phosphor to be finally obtained. For example, where the particle size of the particulate phosphor to be finally obtained is desired to be 0.1-5mu, use is preferably made of particles of the matrix compd. having a primary particle diameter of about 10-500Angstrom .
