Abstract

Abstract Vinyl-substituted di- and poly-nuclear aromatic compounds are obtained from (1) acetyl-substituted compounds by reduction to the carbinol and dehydration, (2) aldehydes by reaction with methyl magnesium iodide and dehydration of the resulting carbinol, (3) dehydrogenation of ethyl-substituted compounds, and (4) dehydrogenation of a - or b -haloethyl-substituted compounds. Specified aromatic compounds are naphthalene, anthracene, diphenyl, fluorene, acenaphthene, phenanthrene, naphthacene, pyrene and perylene. They may be substituted also by alkyl groups.
