Improvements relating to swing half-axle arrangements in vehicles

[Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle swing half-axle arrangement is characterized in that the geometric pivot point 20 of a first half-axle 28 of a pair lies in the vertical plane through the wheel centres and lies beyond a vertical plane 5 through the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, while the second half-axle 29 of said pair is articulated to the first swing half-axle in or near the last mentioned plane 5. The differential gear casing 4 in which the halfaxle 28 is mounted is connected to the vehicle chassis by resilient pivot 20 on bracket 3 and vertical link 23 having resilient pivots 21, 24. The hub carriers are located longitudinally by laminated springs or links 13, 14 with mountings for the helical springs 18. In an alternative the hub carriers are located by a Watts linkage and the differential gear casing is mounted on a pair of generally vertical links one of which is triangulated.
