Improvements in television cameras
Abstract
Abstract 888,317. Stereoscopic television. PYE Ltd. Oct. 26, 1960 [Oct. 26, 1959], No. 36173/59. Class 40(3). In a stereoscopic television camera comprising two cameras, means are provided for adjusting the squint angle of the two cameras in dependence upon the setting of the focus control. In Fig. 2, two cameras 1 and 2 include pick-up tubes mounted on carriages 5 for sliding movement towards and away from lenses under the control of a camera focus mechanism 3. In addition, each camera is mounted for rotation about an axis normal to the common plane of the optical axes, the axis bearing located approximately mid-way along the lens, at one end of the lens or through the face-plate of the tube. A spacing bar 7 having a roller-follower 8 at each end is fixed to the camera support assembly and engages a wedge-shaped cam 8 on each carriage. When the carriages are located closest to their respective lenses so as to focus at infinity, the two cameras, and hence their optical axes, are substantially parallel as shown in Fig. 2. As the carriages are moved rearwardly to bring the focus nearer, 'the action of the spacing bar is to rotate each camera about its axis as shown in Fig. 3, thus adjusting the angle of squint. In another arrangement (not illustrated) the two cameras are mounted with their optical axes parallel and the lenses are mounted for movement transversely of these axes towards and away from each other.
