Abstract
Abstract 837,757. Respiratory appliances. BROOK AIRWAY Ltd. Oct. 21, 1958 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 33534/58. Class 81 (2). A tube for " mouth-to-mouth " resuscitation is combined with a suction tube for removing mucus from the patient's throat. In the simplest form of the apparatus the tube assembly 1, 4, through which blowing takes place, carries the suction tube 5 inside it and this is retained by a cap 7 and has a bulb 8 at its outer end. In use, the tube 1 is placed in the patient's throat, with the guard 2 sealing the mouth, and the tube 5 is used to withdraw any mucus or water. The cap 7 and tube 5 are then removed and resuscitation is commenced. In modified forms provision is made for holding the suction tube continuously in a guide tube adjacent a wall of the tube 1, so as to be ready for immediate use during treatment, or the suction tube may be moulded in one piece with the tube 1. It is also proposed to incorporate a pivoted flap device in the tube 4, which moves to obstruct the tube partially if the operator blows excessively hard, and a spring-loaded relief valve may be fitted which may be adjusted according to whether the patient is a child or adult.
