Machine sewing apparatus
Abstract
Abstract 787,151. Sewing machines. AKTIEBOLAGET HOGANASMETODER. Nov. 3, 1955, No. 31422/55. Class 112 Sewing padded work. In apparatus for sewing continuously-fed felt, or a mat of mineral fibres, by an axially-reciprocating needle, further movement imparted to the needle, while in the work, is in the direction of work feed, and the needle remains at all times at right angles to the plane of movement of the work. As shown, the apparatus secures upper and lower layers of paper 12, 13 to a mat 11 of glass fibre by means of chain stitching. Stitch forming, connecting upper and lower shafts, feeding. A crank 2, fixed to a shaft 1, is connected by a link 3 to a needle bar 4 slidably mounted in a laterally-displaceable sleeve 26, the needle 6 cooperating with a rotary looper 8. Shaft 1 and the looper shaft are interconnected by a chain 9. A driving shaft 22 is connected by a chain 24 to the looper shaft, and by a chain 23 to a work-feeding roller 19 which co-operates with a feed roller, 21. Rods 27, 28 fixed to sleeve 26 and coupled together at their farther ends by a bar 29, are slidably mounted in a frame 38, a rotary cam 32 driven by chain 9 co-operating with a roller 31 on bar 29 to move sleeve 26 later. ally against the returning bias of springs 34, 36. In a multi-needle machine the needledriving cranks 2 are fixed at equal angular distances apart to a common shaft 1.
