Improvements in finned tubing particularly for use in heat exchange apparatus
Abstract
Abstract 697,477. Casting composite articles. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 6, 1951 [Dec. 12, 1950], No. 30341/50. Class 83 (i). [Also in Group XIII] An externally finned tube A for a heat exchanger &c. is provided with a collar D formed by casting metal be. tween adjacent fins or fin portions on the tube. The collar is cast by a split mould (Fig. 2), placed around the fins of the tube, the mould having recess E<SP>1</SP> so that a rim E is formed on the cast collar D. The fins may comprise spaced discs or helically wound strip, as shown in Fig. 1, and in the latter instance pins J in the mould limit the cast metal to predetermined helical flow path between the fins. When casting the collar between spaced discs, pins project from the mould to locate the box so that the collar is always cast between the same number of fins. In the preferred form the fins are of copper and the collar of a zinc base alloy. Specification 426,114, [Group XIII], is referred to.
