Improvements in and relating to apparatus for measuring or checking dimensions by pneumatic micrometry
Abstract
Abstract 601,908. Pneumatic micrometers. SOC. ANON. DE CONSTRUCTION DE MATERIEL AUTOMOBILE S.A.C.M.A. June 5, 1945, No. 14133. Convention date, April 22, 1944. [Class 106 (ii)] A linear-dimension gauge comprises a rigid member 2 carrying an adjustable contact member 10, and a semi-flexible member 1 carrying a fixed contact member 9, in combination with a pneumatic amplifier 14, the valve 17 of which is finely adjusted before use by a screw 12 when the contact members are applied to a master-piece so that the pressure on the upstream side of the valve is at a predetermined value. When the device is applied to a workpiece, the valve is opened to a greater or less extent to affect the pressure on the upstream side of the valve and a pressure gauge connected thereto indicates the variation from standard. Relative movement of the members 1, 2 is limited by a screw 6. The contact member is replaceable according to the dimension to be measured. In Fig. 4, the pneumatic amplifier is adjustable axially in a socket 32 carrying rigid and semi-flexible arms 35, 36 bearing the contact members 10, 9. An L- shaped piece 38 is secured to the arm 36 and acts on the valve 17. The socket 32 is surrounded by a cylindrical casing 39 having a conical end 41 to facilitate introduction into the bore to be measured. The contact members project through gaps in the casing.
