Improvements in or relating to rivets
Abstract
Abstract 528,773. Friction clutches. NEWTON. N. B. May 15, 1939, No. 14406. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] Two-part rivets, for example, for use in connection with clutch plates as described in Specification 443,608, consist of one inner hollow stud b of soft metal such as copper and an outer sleeve c of harder metal such as steel. In the application to clutches the friction lining h' is connected to the backing plate g by pressure between the head a of the stud and the end of the sleeve c. Mounted on the sleeve on the backing-plate c and spring washer k the flange d of the sleeve limits the separation of the backing plates. The tubular shank b of the stud is expanded into a countersink c in the sleeve. In a modification the sleeve has a reduced end forming another shoulder against which the plate 9 is held by winding the sleeve into a countersink therein. In this construction the backing-plates and spring washers remain assembled during the renewal of the linings. The studs are inserted alternately from opposite sides of the plates.
