Improvements relating to alternating current generators
Abstract
Abstract 517,543. Dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and ROBINSON, T. F, July 28, 1938, No. 22486. [Class 35] In an A.C. generator with a permanent magnet or D.C. excited rotor, the stator has short-circuited windings arranged to intersect at least part of the rotor flux to prevent excessive voltage rise at high speeds, the rotor being provided with a squirrel-cage winding to prevent demagnetization. In the form shown, the rotor magnet M carries four pole-pieces P and a squirrel-cage winding B, E, while the stator has, in addition to its generating winding W, short-circuited windings D embracing the whole flux or D, embracing. only part. Alternatively the short circuited winding may embrace the yoke. In a modification, the stator has a distributed winding and the short-circuited winding is in the form of a squirrel-cage disposed at the bottom of the slots. Specifications 505,566 and 516,861, [both in Group XXVII], are referred to.
