Improvements in spooling devices
Abstract
Abstract 424,924. Winding webs. LIGUORI, G., 50, Central Park South, New York, U.S.A. April 9, 1934, No. 10716. Convention date, April 11, 1933. [Class 100 (i)] [See also Groups XXXVIII, IX, and XIX] A spooling device for winding from one reel to another a wire or band adapted to carry sound or other recordings is characterized in that both the spool from which the material is unwound and the take-up spool are driven simultaneously, and independently of the wire or band, by means of differential gearing, which is geared to both spools. The invention is particularly applicable to a sound recording or reproducing machine in which a magnetizable wire or band is employed as the record carrier, the object being to prevent variation in the linear speed of the carrier as the diameters of the coils on the spools change. As shown, the spools a, b between which the wire c passes are driven through worm-shafts g, h from a differential gear i, itself geared, preferably through change-speed gearing n, to a motordriven shaft m. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the invention refers to spooling devices for material of any kind and purpose. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 309,702, [Class 100 (i)].
