New or improved egg-boiling appliance
Abstract
Abstract 299,596. Bond, E., and Sumerling & Co., Ltd. Oct. 8, 1927. Egg-cooking apparatus. - In an egg-boiler, a conveyer is arranged to immerse the eggs in boiling water, convey them slowly through the water during the cooking period and to deliver the eggs when cooked by continuing the conveying motion out of the water. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus comprises a boiler 1 having a false perforated bottom 19 of arcuate shape to correspond with the path of the vanes 13 on a rotating disc 11. A shoot 15 is hinged at 16 to the boiler 1 and is angularly adjusted by a quadrant and clamping screw 17. The eggs roll down the shoot 15 and fall into the pockets formed between the vanes 13 which have inclined flanges 18 at their rear faces to prevent the eggs from passing too readily into the pockets with the danger of the following egg being jammed by the following vane. The flanges 18 may be replaced by rollers. The cooked eggs are delivered on to a shoot 21 having a removable stop pin 23, or delivery may be made into a padded receptacle. The disc 11 is mounted on and connected to a shaft 3, rotated by a motor, by a sleeve 9 having a screw 10 which is adjustable to regulate the friction drive between the sleeve 9 and the shaft 3. A non-adjustable friction drive between the sleeve and shaft may, however, be provided. Alternatively, the friction drive may be interposed in the gearing between the motor and the shaft 3. To permit eggs being removed from the boiler before the normal cooking period has expired, the casing 1 is provided with a lateral compartment 24 communicating with the main boiler through an aperture normally closed by a shutter which may be formed integrally with the lid of the compartment. A spoon may be inserted through the aperture and an egg removed from the pockets of the conveyer. If hard boiled eggs are required, eggs may be removed from the shoot 21 and placed in the compartment 24 for further cooking. A heater is enclosed in a base portion 27, and a removable cover 28 covers the conveyer. A clockwork driving motor may be used. The conveyer may be designed for a single series of eggs, or each pocket may hold a row of eggs in which case the conveyer would accommodate a number of series of eggs, the feed and delivery shoots being formed accordingly. Alternatively, the boiler is divided into compartments by partition walls, each compartment holding a separate rotary conveyer. The conveyers are mounted on a common shaft and the time periods in the compartments are regulated by overflow holes which control the water levels in the various compartments. In a modification, the time periods are altered by mounting the drums concentrically on shafts arranged within one another, and rotating the drums at different speeds. The drum vanes may be inclined from a true radial position to assist in the delivery of the eggs on to the shoot 21. The shoot 15 may be replaced by a hopper or an endless conveyer.
