Abstract

Abstract An intumescent composition suitable for use as a coating comprises as essential components:- (A) a chlorinated polymer which is a chlorinated rubber or a chlorinated polyalkylene (B) a phenol-formaldehyde novalak resin and (C) a plasticiser for the chlorinated polymer which is a chlorinated plasticiser or a phosphorous-containing plasticiser. The composition forms flexible, glossy coatings which are relatively water insoluble.
