Vinyl chloride polymer composition and medical devices made thereof

Claim 2

A vinyl chloride resin composition for medical use comprising 100 parts by weight of 10 vinyl chloride resin, at least 0.001 parts by weight of metal oxide selected from magnesium, calcium and zinc oxides, and 5 to 200 parts by weight of plasticizer.

Claim 3

A composition according to claim 1 wherein the plasticizer comprises dialkyl phthalate.

Claim 4

A composition according to claim 2 wherein the alkyl groups of the dialkyl phthalate are the same or different alkyl groups of 6 to 13 carbon atoms.

Claim 5

A composition according to claim 3 wherein the dialkyl phthalate is represented by the general formula 0 11 C - 0 --(- CH 2 rn H C -0 -4- CH 2 4-n H 11 0 A wherein m and n are the same or different integers of 6 to 12 and (m + n)/2 is not more than 11.5.

Claim 6

A composition according to claim 4 wherein m and n are the same or different integers of at least 7 and (m + n)/2 is not more than 11.

Claim 7

A composition according to claim 5 wherein the dialkyl phthalate is din-decyl phthalate, 30 or a mixture of n-decyl-(n-dodecyl) phthalate, di-n-decyl phthalate and di-n-dodecyl phthalate.

Claim 8

A composition according to any of claims 2 to 6 containing from 10 to 100 parts by weight of dialkyl phthalate plasticizer.

Claim 9

A composition according to any preceding claim containing from 0.005 to 3 parts by weight of said metal oxide.

Claim 10

A composition according to any preceding claim wherein said metal oxide is magnesium oxide,

Claim 11

A composition according to any preceding claim sterilized by radiation.

Claim 12

A vinyl chloride resin composition for medical use and substantially as hereinbefore described in any one of Examples 1-5.

Claim 13

A vinyl chloride resin composition for medical use and substantially as hereinbefore described in any one of Examples 1-5.

Claim 14

A medical device made of a vinyl chloride resin composition according to any preceding claim.

Claim 15

A medical device according to claim 12 which has been sterilized by radiation.

Claim 16

A medical device according to claim 12 which has been sterilized by gamma radiation.

Claim 17

A tubular medical device according to any of claims 12 to 14.

Claim 18

A medical device according to any of claims 12 to 15 which is selected from bags ' and tubes for use as or on catheters, dialysis tubes, blood administration sets, solution adminiStra tion sets, blood lines and blood bags; catheters; and packaging for medicine.
