Improvements in apparatus for improving the commutation of direct-current dynamo-electric machines on sudden variations of the load
Abstract
Abstract 203,003. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Aug. 28, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Commutating poles and windings; short-circuited screens on poles. - The commutation of continuous-current machines liable to sudden variations in load is improved by providing one or more closed windings which are interlinked with a flux dependent upon the armature current and in which windings an increase in this flux induces currents that strengthen the commutating-pole field. In one form, Fig. 2, the closed winding is situated in one or more slots in the faces of the main poles P1, P2, and is interlinked with the flux #w of the commutating pole W and with the transverse armature flux #a. In a modification, Fig. 3, the closed winding Z is interlinked with the dispersion flux #s of a commutating pole. Instead of providing a separate closed winding, the commutating- pole winding may be in two parts W1, W2, Fig. 4, connected in parallel and dimensioned so that the coil W1, for example, carries the greater current. Resistances may be arranged in the circuit of the closed windings.
