Improved manufacture of small glowlamps
Abstract
Abstract 194,673. Naamlooze Vennootschap Pope's Metaaldraadlampenfabriek. March 8, 1922, [Convention date]. Leading-in wires.-In making glow lamps, the leading-in wires 4, 5 are sealed into the bulb simultaneously with the making of the joint between the bulb and the exhaust tube 8 by means of a coating of glass 6, 7 which is applied to them at and near the point of sealing before the exhaust tube is sealed to the bulb. The glass layers 6, 7 may be made by slipping pieces of capillary tube over the leading-in wires, with or without a previous coating of a borate on the wires, these tubes being fused on to the wires at the same time as or prior to the fusion of the exhaust tube on to the bulb. The leading-in wires may be made of a composite wire having a core of nickel-iron or tungsten and a jacket of copper or other metal such as to have the same coefficient of expansion as that of the glass.
