Regulatable Hydraulic Brake Mechanism for Springs or the like or for other Mechanical Organs which release themselves very quickly.
Abstract
Abstract 16,632. Badois, L. July 23, 1912, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Dash - pots. -- Relates to piston- and-cylinder liquid dash-pots particularly applicable to controlling the actuation of clutches, or damping the vibrations of vehicle springs, and consists in the two particular constructions described. Fig. 1 shows one construction in which the fixed piston 5 is provided with holes 6 controlled by a disk valve 7, the movable cylinder 1 having a tapered bore. The liquid passes freely through the passages 6 during the upward movement of the cylinder, but is restricted to the variable space between the piston and cylinder during the downward movement. A packing-ring 9 is provided where the pistonrod 4 leaves the cylinder, and an air space may be provided to compensate for the volume of the piston-rod. The liquid and air may be separated by a diaphragm. Fig. 2 shows an alternative arrangement in which the piston is arranged upon a rod extending through each end of the cylinder, the cylinder being in this case fixed and the piston movable.
