Abstract 20,587. Malcomess, Suhr, & Co., [Baynes, F. W.]. Sept. 30. Actuating pumps.-An apparatus for increasing or decreasing the stroke of a windmill or like pumping-engine comprises a fixed toothed rack e, a pinion f rolling up and down the fixed rack and pivoted to the plunger rod d of the windmill or other operating - engine, and a sliding rack g engaging with the teeth of the pinion and attached to the plunger or pump rod d of the pump. In place of a single pinion a pair of pinions may be employed, and in order to vary the relative strokes of the driving and driven members, two pinions of different diameters formed in one piece may be used in place of the pinion f.
