Abstract
Abstract 1520448 Apparatus for removing calculi AMERICAN HOSPITAL SUPPLY CORP 31 Oct 1975 [17 July 1975] 45297/75 Heading A5R An instrument for removing uretal calculi comprises a transparent flexible tube 12, a flexible cable extending through said tube said cable being formed of a plurality of filaments 15 which form a collapsible cage 14 and which are tightly twisted together between cage 14 and a handle at the proximal end of the cable. Markings 18- 21 are provided on the cable, so that the depth of insertion into the body may be measured. In use, the cable is slidable in the tube between a first position wherein the cage 14 is collapsed and retracted within the tube 12 and a second position wherein the cage 14 is expanded. The filaments preferably define a lumen 16 for injecting or draining liquid, Fig. 3. A fibre-optics bundle and/or an ultrasonic transmission wire may also be inserted through the lumen 16.
