Strippable puncturing cannula for the insertion of a catheter
Abstract
Abstract 1381053 Catheter - insertion cannula B BRAUN MELSUNGEN AG 18 Jan 1972 [29 Jan 1971] 2360/72 Heading A5R A cannula for use in the insertion of a flexible catheter comprises a tube 1 with a point 2 and of closed cross-section, and having a plurality of longitudinally-extending lines of weakness 3, along which the cannula may be parted and thus removed from the catheter. Preferably, two such lines 3 are provided and arranged symmetrically. At the distal end 4 the cannula is divided at the end of one line 3 and is laterally extended at the exposed edges 6 to provide surfaces 7. Grip plates 8 are attached to the surfaces 7 and are each bent to form a part 10 perpendicular to the surfaces 7, by means of which the cannula may be held, and a part 9 parallel to the surfaces 7, by meansof which the halves of the cannula may be pulled apart. The edges 6 are flared to provide a guide for insertion of the catheter. The grip plates 8 may have knurled or corrugated surfaces. One line 3 may end at a location spaced from the point 2 whereas the other line 3 extends right to the pointed end. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the cannula (12) has a flat face (14) bounded by two lines of weakness (11). The face (14) has a free end (13) which is received in a key (15), and may be removed by turning the key (15) to wind up the face.
