Abstract
Abstract 131,069. Power, R. F. April 15, 1918. Skid. - A ground brake for aircraft comprises a ploughshare 3 mounted on the tail skid 1 and adapted to yield when a predetermined resistance has been reached. The share 3 is mounted on a block 6 carried by a pin 5 and has teeth 11 engaging a wheel 12 rotated by the pilot to position the share. An adjustable tension spring 8 also connects the skid to the share. The pin 5 and wheel 12 are so positioned that, when the spring yields, the wheel 12 is disengaged from the teeth 11, allowing the share to slide into a retracted position.
