Vehicle wheel slip limiters
Abstract
Abstract 1292769 Controlling vehicle wheel slip electrically GENERAL MOTORS CORP 17 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 28387/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H3] A wheel slip limiter for a motor vehicle comprises a tachogenerator 10 sensing speed of a non-driven wheel of the vehicle and a tachogenerator 12 sensing speed of a driven wheel, the respective signals being fed to squaring amplifiers 14,16 thence to a frequency comparator 18 producing an excessive wheel slip signal proportional to the amount by which driven wheel speed exceeds non-driven wheel speed which slip signal is applied to vary the duty cycle of a square wave produced by oscillator 20 and controlling the period of interruption of the vehicle engine ignition circuit 26 so as to vary engine torque thereby causing the driven wheel to slow to a normal slip to achieve maximum traction. A low speed disabling circuit 28 is arranged to prevent interruption of the ignition at a predetermined speed e.g. 2 m.p.h. of a non-driven wheel. There is also a circuit arrangement to ensure no interruption of the ignition circuit whilst the vehicle wheels are being braked. Circuit details are illustrated in Fig.2 (not shown), see Division H3.
