Improvements relating to the measurement of distance travelled

[Also in Division G4] A vehicle guided along a magnetizable rail 10 or a rail with a magnetizable section has a write head 3 operated via a trigger 5 each time a sensing head 4 a fixed distance from the write head 3 detects a previously written mark, another mark then being recorded on the rail. The number of sensed marks representing the distance travelled by the vehicle which may be a train or hover-train is counted in a counter 6. Erase heads 8, 7 precede and follow the heads 3, 4 respectively.
