Improvements in or relating to the Removal of Iron from Solutions Containing Aluminium.
Abstract
Abstract 123,720. Norske Aktieselskab for Elektrokemisk Industri Norsk Industri-Hypotekbank. Feb. 23, 1918, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect 91 of the Act]. Aluminium chloride, nitrate, sulphate, and other salts.-Aluminium salt solutions, particularly the nitrate, are purified from iron by treatment with excess of amorphous or precipitated alumina which may be prepared in situ by adding a soluble base to the solution, or an aluminium compound such as calcined kaolin, clay, law or calcined bauxite, laterite, labradorite, or anorthite. The treatment is preferably effected with heat and may be under pressure or otherwise. The solution may be stirred, or air may be blown through. Part of the iron may be precipitated by treatment with one of the minerals mentioned and the rest by precipitated alumina. The last traces of iron may be removed by ferrocyanide, the blue precipitate being absorbed in the first precipitate. If the iron is not in the ferric condition it is first oxidized.
