Non-Return Valve for Medical Uses.
Abstract
Abstract 1,199,498. Injection apparatus. LATEX PRODUCTS (Pty) Ltd. 3 Jan., 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 515/68. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F2] A valve for use with a medical syringe includes a bored stem 11 constituting part of the fluid path through the valve, a chamber 16 in which the stem is located, and a sock 17 slidingly engaged over the side walls of the stem, the side walls of the sock yielding to permit fluid to pass through the stem into the chamber and being urged into engagement with the stem by pressure fluid on the downstream side of the valve, and the adjacent chamber wall serving to limit sliding movement of the sock. The sock 17 may be rubber or synthetic resin and is extended against ridges at the outlet from the chamber 16 by air flowing from a syringe 22 into the outer concentric tube of a catheter 20 to inflate a balloon by which the catheter may be held in the bladder. To deflate the balloon, the sock is punctured by a needle mounted in the syringe. The valve may have the stem 11 threaded into a part 10 and may also be used to remove samples of blood from or to supply doses of fluid to a human body.
