Improvements in or relating to Presensitised Printing Plates
Abstract
Abstract 1,168,445. Photo-sensitive materials. W.H. HOWSON Ltd. May 17, 1967 [May 26, 1966], No. 23754/66. Heading G2C. A photo-sensitive material comprises a support coated with a layer of starch cinnamate, cellulose cinnamate or polyvinyl cinnamate, the furfurylacetates of starch or cellulose or polyvinyl furfurylacetate and a layer of a colorant e.g. a dye and optionally a polymer such as polyvinyl alcohol, shellac and ester gum. The material is imagewise exposed and developed with a one or two phase developer and then etched if the support is metal. Specified two-phase developers are those containing ammonium alginate or gum arabic in the aqueous phase and polyexyethylene condensates in the organic phase whereas the one-phase developer contain polyexyethylene condensates and either methyl cellulose or gum arabic but all developers are acidified with phosphoric acid. The dye may be applied to the light-sensitive layer in a solvent without a binder, the solvent preferably being a non-solvent for the light-sensitive layer.
